Screening and discussion of a documentary on life in the collapsed Soviet Union: “Soviet Collapse”

Dear students and teachers!

We invite you on March 13 at 19.00 at the Hotel Carolina (Sausio 13-osios g. 2), Aud. K1 to watch and discuss the documentary film

SOVIET COLLAPSE

The film is based on 16 interviews with common people living in 14 former Soviet republics. They share their memories, hopes and fears related to the events of the last three decades since the collapse of the Soviet Union. In the movie episodes presented at the screening, they talk about when they felt that the USSR would soon be gone; how they lived through the days of the August 1991 putsch; about the language situation in their country; and whether they consider their country to be independent now.

The movie is in Russian with English subtitles.

After the screening it will be possible to discuss and ask questions to the film’s creator, journalist Maria Shubina.

The discussion will be moderated by Kirill Levinson, historian, PhD in History (Max Weber Network Eastern Europe).

The working languages are Russian and English. Entrance is free. Registration is required.
