Exploring Shared Histories and Future Cooperation

EHU welcomed representatives from the Embassy of Hungary — Mr. Dénes András Nagy, Deputy Head of Mission and Visiting Lecturer at the University of Warsaw, and Dr. Sándor Seremet, Head of the Secure Neighbourhood Research Center (Political sciences).

The discussion highlighted the deep-rooted historical ties between Hungary and Lithuania, viewed through the broader lens of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and its Belarusian, Ukrainian, and Polish dimensions. The Hungarian guests expressed interest in Hungary’s past engagement with the University, and it appeared that this visit marked the first time in over a decade that representatives of the Hungarian Embassy visited EHU, a gesture that was warmly welcomed by the University community.

Among the concrete initiatives discussed was the potential revival of the Stefan Batory Study Development Program between Lithuania and Hungary. It could significantly contribute to strengthening academic ties between EHU and Hungarian universities, serving as a meaningful platform for long-term collaboration.

Both sides emphasized the value of academic exchange and joint research, with EHU proposing to focus on interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly in areas related to national and constitutional identity.
