The program, developed in collaboration with Vytautas Magnus University (Kaunas) and the Lithuanian Culture Research Institute (Vilnius), combines historical and philosophical traditions with an interdisciplinary approach. Over four years, doctoral students explore relevant philosophical questions, publish academic articles, participate in conferences, and prepare a dissertation, which, upon successful defense, leads to the award of a Doctor of Humanities degree recognized across the European Union.

EHU offers two doctoral study formats: full-time (on-campus) and full-time session-based (part-time), each of which is adapted to different lifestyles, yet both provide high-quality education and active participation in the university environment.

Submitting your documents is as simple as possible:
📩 Online submission:
Master’s applicants submit their documents electronically as attachments to the application form. Originals or notarized copies are only required after enrollment during the first visit to the university.
📃 No apostille required:
Applicants from Belarus, Ukraine, and Russia do not need an apostille on their diploma, transcript, national exam certificates (CT/CE, NMT, EGE), etc.

📌 Mandatory documents:
✅ Color photo (4×6 cm, like a passport photo), no older than 3 months. Minimum size: 235×355 pixels.
✅ National passport (pages with the photo and name in Latin characters).
✅ Higher education diploma and transcript.
To participate in the competition, an applicant must achieve a passing score of at least 8 (on a 10-point scale) or 80% of the maximum possible score in the education system of their country.
📝 How to calculate the passing score? Use the following formula:
(FR × 0.6) + (AG × 0.4) = PS, where:
- FR – final (diploma) research/project grade
- AG – average grade from the diploma transcript
- PS – your passing score
✅ Proof of English proficiency (B2 or higher) – one of the following:
- International certificate (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge English, etc.).
- Diploma of studies completed in English.
- Diploma or academic transcript from a linguistic university, translation faculty, or linguistic college.
- Certificate from the internal exam for Master’s applicants.

How to submit your application for the EHU PhD in Philosophy?
1️⃣ Prepare your documents
- Ensure that all required documents are collected, properly formatted, and signed (if necessary).
2️⃣ Create an archive
- Save all files in one archive in .zip or .rar format.
- Use a clear file name: Lastname_PhD_EHU_2025.zip
3️⃣ Write your email subject line using this template:
- “PhD Application to EHU – [Full Name]”
4️⃣ Write a short cover email including:
- Your full name
- Your chosen research topic
- Contact details (phone, email)
- A list of attached files
5️⃣ Submit your email on time

✅ Make sure the archive size does not exceed your email provider’s limit.
✅ Submit your documents early to allow time for corrections if needed.
✅ Wait for confirmation of receipt from the coordinator.
Candidates selected by the Admissions Committee as meeting the admission requirements are invited to an online interview.
📝 Purpose of the interview
- Assessment of the applicant’s readiness and motivation for PhD studies.
- Evaluation of academic achievements and publications.
- Assessment of the applicant’s research experience in relation to the chosen topic.
- Consideration of academic recommendations.
- Verification of foreign language proficiency.

✅ Sign the contract – within three days of receiving it, and send a scanned copy to the University.
✅ Pay the tuition for the first semester – before the start of classes.
